Post Information On Operation Desert Storm

What happens when you fly to close too the ground during a war.  This Hornet made it back after a ground fired "Stinger" missile struck the planes exhaust section.

The stinger missile blew the tailhook latch off and most of the variable exhaust nozzle. It was an interesting landing to watch. Good job to the pilot for getting it back to base.

A little peace during the war.  Taken from Shaikh Isa Air Base, Bahrain.  This was a sunset I believe. Before all the oil fires directed by Saddam Hussein.

Another VMFA-333 F/A-18 rolls out. The Plane Captain is your truly.  I was P.F.C. Campbell in this shot. Nothing like rolling out a fully loaded F/A-18 and seeing it come back empty.

Fighting Shamrocks Desert Storm Day Crew. This was an impromptu photo of the VMFA-333 Desert Storm Flight Line Day Crew. GET YOUR BOOTIES ON DEVIL DOGS!

Home sweet home. "Scud Village".  What a great place to find complete boredom.  I wish I had taken a photo of some of the stuff the guys made out of pallets and MRE boxes. Some guys had a whole dresser for their clothes all made from MRE boxes and duct tape.

National Defense, Kuwait Liberation, and a Southwest Asia Medal. All personal received these if they where in the area during the war. It was rumored that the Saudi Arabian's where going to give us money or a solid gold medal.

Confirmed kills list on a VMFA-333 Hornet for the squadron's decommissioning ceremony.

Cluster bombs on a Marine Corps A-6 Intruder. These bombs can do some damage to runways and roads, making them full of holes. This plane had 20 bombs... ouch!

The fuel pits. Planes were taking off and landing 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  I worked in the "pits" for a month. Got to fuel all kinds of planes.  We never ran out of fuel with the Saudi's paying the bill.
